Had a chance to finally squeeze in some action with an introduction game of SAGA to some new converts. Using Gripping Beast Plastic Viking Hirdmen and Saxon Thegn boxed sets to build the forces, we once again, put them to the test. Here at the opening gambit, the viking line surges forward from the left to attack the Anglo-Saxon defenders.
The Saxons in a bold move rushed the Viking Ulfhednar and wiped the berserkers out. In turn their warriors were cut down by the Viking Warlord and his warriors.
After some crushing skirmishes, the Anglo-Saxons retreat. The Viking Warlord sends his warriors in to attack the opposing Warlord and his last two remaining Hearthguard who are defending from behind a stonewall.
Refusing to be defeated the Anglo-Saxon Warlord stands defiant! The Viking warlord joins his warriors in the attack!
The viking warriors jump the wall and attack and slay the last remaining Saxon Hearthguard....
leaving the Saxon Warlord to be surrounded and slain.
A great night of introducing SAGA to new players who in turn brought additional recruits to the miniature wargaming hobby!

Dr Who Miniature Game from Warlord Games
OK all you Whovians, Warlord Games has secured the licence to produce a miniatures game based on the BBC's Doctor Who
Warlord is extremely pleased to have the chance to bring this iconic series to the tabletop with a game system you all know and love as well as the official range of miniatures to complement it.
The licence covers not just the latest series of Doctor Who but encompasses all of the Doctors, their companions and their foes. So, expect to see Sea Devils as much as Weeping Angels, Leela as much as Martha Jones, and a long, brightly colored scarf as much as a fez.
Keep an eye on the Warlord Games website for further details or sign up to the Doctor Who Miniatures Game newsletter on their site.
We like the detail you get from Warlord Games, but if you can't wait, Black Tree Designs has a current selection of older Dr Who figures including Daleks!
And remember - don't blink. Whatever you do, don't blink...

How To Make Wooden Panels for Set Designs
Recently, taking a break from gaming, we did a set design with a lot of
wooden panels as you can see here. Folks asked how we did this so we're
going to show you how.
We used the same premise as model houses and fences built for war gaming . Starting with 4 by 8 polystyrene insulation board, we measured distances from 4 6 8 and 12 inches across the board. Vary these so your boards are not uniform.
After spacing out your measurements draw long vertical lines along the board . Using a utility knife cut a v-shape along your lines .
Next we made knot holes by taking a piece of pipe pressing it into the foam and gouging out an oblong hole.
After you have the hole in place, use your knife to cut a V shape running from the hole out to a point. Then use a pencil or pointed stick to score out other lines around the knot as you see here.
When finished you'll have a panel something like this.
Painting them will depend on the wood look you are going for. You basically need a dark brown for the shadow areas a medium brown for the main portion of your wood and a lighter brown for your highlights. As you can see in the earlier photo we used medium Brown as the basis for the main boards. Here are individual boards made to attach as needed.
Here on this window we use a lighter more olive brown as the main color.
For our main building we used more of a redwood color.
We plan on getting back to "small" scale modelling soon! Till then,

New Release: Warhammer 40K Adeptus Mechanicus Onager Dunecrawler from Games Workshop
Owing its origin to the lost knowledge of millennia, the Onager Dunecrawler is based on the Mars Universal Land Engine; itself inspired by the bad-tempered beasts of burden that transported their masters across Holy Terra in ancient times.
The Onager Dunecrawler, rather than being a mere people-carrier, is absolutely brimming with advanced, powerful weaponry capable of reducing worlds to wastelands.
On the subject of weaponry, included in the box are four variants: an eradication beamer, twin phosphor blasters with sensors, a neutron laser featuring a coaxial cognis heavy stubber or an Icarus array - an awesome anti-air assault package comprising twin autocannons, a gatling flak launcher, an armour-piercing missile launcher and a radar dish.
The Onager Dunecrawler, a light walking tank, features four crab-like legs with optional armour plating.
The armoured cabin and reactor are complemented by a huge variety of modelling options, with searchlights, smoke launchers, cognis manipulators and mindscanner probes; and the cupola can be modelled closed or open, featuring a Princeps wielding a heavy stubber.
You get a massive amount of configuration and customisation available even before applying weaponry.
Included with this 119-component multi-part plastic kit, making one Onager Dunecrawler, is a small Adeptus Mechanicus transfer sheet and a 130mm round base.
