New Release: Dark Angels Ravenwing Dark Talon, Darkshroud and Grand Master Sammael
The new Dark Angels Ravenwing models hit the shelves this Saturday. Spearheading the new range is the Ravenwing Dark Talon and Nephilim Jetfighter kit. While the Dark Talon variant features motifs and design elements that are based on artifacts found on Caliban itself, the Nephilim Jetfighter displays more ferocious weaponry.
The LandSpeeder Vengeance kit can also be used to make a Ravenwing Darkshroud, giving the collector plenty of options. You can add the icons and structures from Caliban, evoking glorious religious imagery, or opt for extra firepower in the form of a plasma storm battery.
These and many others are available to Advance Order now or pick up this coming weekend! Including the brand new Codex: Dark Angels.
The Dark Angels are among the most loyal servants of the Emperor, who stand foremost amongst the Space Marines, Mankind's mightiest defenders. Since the founding of their Legion, they have been dreaded by their enemies and held in awe by those they protect. Sammael is Grand Master of the Ravenwing and Leader of the Hunt. He is bold to the point of being reckless - a trait required in order to head a mobile company whose success depends upon speed and hard-hitting surprise.

He is bold to the point of being reckless - a trait required in order to head a mobile company whose success depends upon speed and hard-hitting surprise.
As we've come to expect, the model of Sammael riding to battle on his jetbike, Corvex, is a remarkably detailed miniature. Sammael is covered in intricate and arcane features, from his Adamantine Mantle cloak, to the tome held open by chains. Sammael holds the Raven Sword to one side, and his personal heraldry is sculpted into his shoulder pad. Corvex displays a large and wonderful Aquila and winged iconography at its front and rear, not to mention the symbol of the Mechanicum on its side. An underslung plasma cannon and twin-linked storm bolter are also fixed to the jetbike.
This is a premium Citadel Finecast resin kit containing 33 components, a large flying base and two flying stems with which to make Sammael.
Sammael's stats are:

His war gear includes: Power armour, Bolt pistol, Frag grenades, Krak grenades, Teleport homer, Raven Sword, Adamantine Mantle, Corvex, Night Halo
The Ravenwing Dark Talon supports its allies on the ground and perhaps is the deadliest weapon in the Ravenwing's armoury.
The main role for the Nephilim Jetfigher is as an interceptor to establish air superiority over the battlefield, allowing their brethren to concentrate on ground.
This 88 component multi-part plastic kit can make either a Ravenwing Dark Talon or a Nephilim Jetfighter, both of which are sweet-looking miniatures. Echoing the aesthetics of the popular Storm Talon in many respects, both of these kits are very much of the Dark Angels Chapter and steeped in their iconography accordingly.
The Ravenwing Dark Talon features cathedral-like masonry built into the core of the flyer, surrounded by censors, insignias, wires and skulls, while metal panels and rivets, are built around the engines, creating a robust construction. The kit comes with two hurricane bolters, a rift cannon and stasis bomb.

Aesthetically the Nephilim Jetfighter differs by displaying far more weaponry, and accordingly the kit includes a twin-linked heavy bolter, twin-linked lascannon and Blacksword missiles.

The Land Speeder Vengeance has proven its worth on the battlefield time and time again, able to keep pace with the fastest of the Ravenwing vehicles and able to deliver devastating volleys from its deadly plasma storm battery
Of all the archaic relics deployed in the field of battle by the Unforgiven, the Darkshroud is perhaps the strangest. Those who have witnessed it at close range and felt its caliginous pall, and lived to tell of it, are disturbed forever more.
This impressive 88 component kit can make either the Vengeance or Darkshroud.
Notable about the Land Speeder Vengeance is the extra firepower that comes in the form of a plasma storm battery situated at the rear of the model.
The Ravenwing Darkshroud, however, more obviously displays icons and structures from Caliban, evoking glorious religious imagery such as angel wings, shrouded statues, parchments and stained glass with lead frame.
Both vehicles display a pulpit-like cupola from which a Space Marine shoots others with either a heavy bolter or assault cannon. Both models are covered in metal panels, rivets, engines, all in the tough and robust style of the Space Marines.
Each model comes with three Space Marines positioned in the front, middle and rear of the vehicle

The Dwarves from The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey by Gamesworkshop
Well we did go see the Hobbit an Unexpected Journey on opening day and out of everything the dwarves were the most unexpected of all. They were not as lack luster as Tolkien originally wrote them . These guys were very inspirational in their dwarfishness (is that a word?) and would never be stuffed into a sack. Thorin Oakenshield and the dwarves really got into the thick of things with axe, sword, hammer and yes even a bow. The movie gives you a great deal of background information on the dwarf culture and their lot in Middle Earth.
Games Workshop currently only offers these mighty heroes in the "Escape from Goblin Town" box set. Hopefully they will be made available in a set of their own in the near future. Lets take a look at them one by one! The Leader of this illustrious band of adventurers is Thorin Oakenshield. The front of the model is pictured above wielding Orcrist, or Goblin-Cleaver.
And here is the back of the model. You can see the beautiful scabbard, which is what caught Thorin's eye in the troll lair.
Next in the line is Balin. Balin appears older and more scholarly but can dish it out in a pinch
Dwalin carries a mighty dwarven hammer and wears some nasty "Brass Knuckles" for dishing out additional damage.
Here you can see the nicely sculpted features like the knife worn on his belt and axes carried on his back.
Bifur uses what could be called a pole arm for a dwarf. It is a sweet combination of spear and halberd rolled into one and carved on the figure in a fierce pose.
Wearing a wonderful hat and swinging his war hammer, Bofur also strikes a grand pose
What troop of dwarves would go anywhere without food and a cook? Bombur fills the roll in a large way. He also utilizes his iron ladle along with butchers cleaver to handle any goblins that get to close!
Another deceptively grey bearded dwarf is Oin. Yes, he is hard of hearing and his "ear trumpet" can be seen slung on the miniatures belt. he wields his iron shod staff with great force.
The back of the figure shows his dwarfish sword.
Gloin is the closest thing to Gimli you'll see in the movie and as a sculpted figure too. Hear you can see his axes careening wildly and effectively. He also has a full compliment of metal beard ornaments. Quite a family resemblance wouldn't you say?
Dori is finely crafted swinging his sword and mace. The dwarven sword and scabbard are unique to the character.
The rear of the miniature shows the detail in hair and clothing.
The unmistakable "tri peak" hairdo sets Nori out from the rest of the band. The model completes his look with the three braids in his beard. He has his long handled mace raised and poised for an attack on a luckless goblin.
On Nor's back is sculpted his twin swords.
The youngest of the dwarves is Ori. He is carved in a slingshot release, no doubt taking down another goblin. His weapon did not fair well against the wargs!. His knife is seen strapped to his belt and his book bag slung from his shoulder.
Fili is one of the more adventurous dwarf characters and always ready for action. this miniature has a nice fighting pose. His throwing knives can be seen sculpted into his gauntlets..
and his sheaths carved on his back.
Kili is also a younger more adventurous dwarf. Here he is sword raised for the strike. This model has some nice features like the studded gauntlets and belts, extra knife...
and his bow and quiver worn on his back. The figure has a lot of motion carved into it like the coat swirling behind him.
Kili is probably my favorite one in the bunch and overall the sculpts are very nice. They have a good amount of detail but are missing some extra pouches and the likely assortment of paraphernalia a dwarf would have on an adventure. We've also come to expect more from Games Workshop and Citadel miniatures.
With that said, we do look forward to seeing these guys in their own box set and will probably add them to the never ending miniature collection.
